Carmel by the Sea, CA known for it's spectacular vistas. Surf pounds the rocky shores spraying mist in the air.

Plant life washes ashore on the beach in Carmel, CA.

Cypress trees line the streets where zillion dollar beach front homes exist in Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA.

Carmel-by-the-Sea = Dog City, USA. In this photo dogs are not allowed in the city park. Much to my dismay (and allergic condition) dogs are allowed everywhere else= restaurants, bars, banks, shops, hotels, et.al.. Actor Clint Eastwood was once the mayor of this tiny seaside town.

Surf pounding the rocks near Big Sur, CA along the beautiful Pacific Coast Highway.

The long and winding road built for beauty not speed. This is California Highway #1.

Elephant seals bask in the sunshine along the Pacific Coast Highway.

Morro Rock is hundreds of feet high and is home to the endangered peregrine falcon. Every year some fool tries to scale the rock and is killed or caught (and jailed). I stayed clear of the rock.

The power plant at Morro Bay, CA. The plant produces 1000 megawatts of electricity. A proposed plant that is much smaller would replace the older plant taking up less space with much smaller stacks.

The author living large on the stately streets of Santa Barbara, CA.

Santa Barbara, CA is the home of many homeless people. This plea for change was found on the beach below the pier. People passing by could toss coins down as the hopeful homeless person waited under the shade of the giant wharf.

The harbor in Santa Barbara, CA. Sailboats of all shapes and sizes dock here.

12 Flags flew over the (now) state of California. It was its own country in the middle 1800's for 21 days when it broke away from Mexico.

The first Sambo's restaurant opened its doors in Santa Barbara, CA, in 1957. All of these restaurants are gone or at least have changed their names.
